Good morning,
I'm shaking things up a lot this year over at The Patchwork Pearl, and decided to join The Quilting Gallery's Blog Hop Party as one way of doing so! I'm hoping to welcome new readers here - and on my Facebook page - to come along on the quilting adventure with me.
My blog giveaway is a copy of Sue Pelland Designs new book on Rotary Cut Applique with the Leaves Galore Templates
Sue is a tremedously talented quilter, and I'm very excited about this newest book. I've played around with the templates a lot over the last couple of years, and so I've been waiting to see what she would come up with next. I'll be keeping you posted on the progress...and yes, I will ship internationally if you win.
The Patchwork Pearl is online only - I don't have a shop, although I'm based here in beautiful (snowy) southern New Hampshire. I help quilters connect with one another through retreats, trips and classes. I'm also working on a group of patterns designed around memories - whether they be weddings, birthdays, family reunioins or a event...I have some neat twists in the mix.
My pattern line is evolving slowly...but it is coming.
To enter the giveaway for the book, please leave a note telling me what makes a quilt retreat special for you. I have some ideas in the works - and some wonderful locations in mind.
I've only participated in one day retreats that are local. Just a great time to spend the day focused on quilting.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to my first quilt retreat next summer with a great group of friends! I hope there's plenty of water and chocolate there. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteA great quilt retreat would be to go with my friend Joanne Lendaro! But since she lives in New Hampshire now it is kind of hard to do. We did enjoy the ones we got to go to together. At least I did anyway! lol
ReplyDeleteJust a great time to spend with your quilting friends and not have to think about anything else that I should be doing. Just relaxing, quilting and enjoying the company.
ReplyDeleteOH I am glad you ask, I am basically new to retreats, I have 2 that I have been to twice in the last 2 years.
ReplyDeleteApart from being able to sew whenever I feel like it and the company, I LOVE the food and not having to prepare it myself for any of the meals for 3 whole days. These have been reasonably small #s at these retreats and I also LOVE having a private room and bathroom at our one retreat.
Thanks for the chance to win, Cindy AUS.
I've only been to retreats with my church, but our guild does sit-n-sews. I would imagine that a quilt retreat where all the cooking is done and all the time is spent sewing would be like heaven on earth. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a quilt retreat. They sound like fun! That looks like a fun book!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat before. They always sound like a lot of fun, lots of food and great friends. You have a very thoughtful giveway. Any of your followers would be proud to win a copy of this book as well as those templates. Thank you for joining in the Beat the Winter Blues Blog Hop and making this so much fun. Good luck with your retreat and hope you have lots of fun.

I cannot be of any help with retreats because I have never been to one. With my job and commute, it makes it impossible to belong to a guild.
ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter and have never attended a retreat before. Thank you for the chance to enter your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been able to attend a quilting retreat yet so no suggestions from me.
ReplyDeletesyvisser@gmail(dot)com
I love to attend with a great group of friends and then meet more friends while there! good times!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I just bought that ruler from my LQS and would love to have a copy of the book! Pick me! Pick me!
ReplyDeleteI love retreats and go to several every year. My favorite retreat spots have lots of room for sewing with brightly lit rooms and great food!
Which local quilt store? I would love to know who has my templates! Thanks, Sue Pelland
DeleteI haven't been on any away retreats, just day one with my local guilds. I would think games, food and a comfortable atmosphere would make a great retreat.
ReplyDeleteOur guild has retreats, but I've not been to one. I'd love to though! They always seem to have such fun! Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteBeing with my friends makes retreat special. Where we go for retreat doesn't usually matter to me but I do have a favorite place to go...The Compass Centre in Mt. Calm, TX. There they provide great food and fabric shopping 24 hours a day on site.
ReplyDeleteI love all the visiting with new people and the food! Thanks for the chance to win
ReplyDeleteI have not been to a retreat before. I guess just having the chance to quilt uninterrupted by phones, kids, husband, dog etc would be a treat!
ReplyDeletebandkgram (at) hotmail (dot) ca
I have never been to a quilt retreat but I would guess what would be important to me is the time, (weekends),(not all quilters are retired), cost, and what I was making or learning. I would hate to spend a lot of money for something I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a quilt retreat but my guild is planning one this summer. As I am a guy quilter and most quilters are girls I am not sure while how welcome I will be it took a long time to get my guild SLMQG to warm too me. So time will tell. I will of course bring my wife along so at least she will talk to me.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat. There's a quilt guild here in the city, but I sincerely don't know when to go there with two little kiddos and the hubbs working at night. The online community is my retreat at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this book. Thanks for the chance!
I've never been on a quilting retreat, but I've read the Jennifer Chiaverini books and her Elm Creek Quilts retreat scenario sounds idyllic to me!
ReplyDeleteI just spent a one night retreat all by myself!! To get away from the snow, and to make sure I was in RI for a lecture, I left a day early, checked myself and my sewing machine into a local hotel, and sewed for 12 hours (between nice meals and a relaxing hot shower!). It was the best!! I hope you enjoy the Rotary Cut Applique book. I loved writing it for all of you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite retreats have a swap of some sort. I've done Jelly Roll and Block swaps even a greedy gift exchange where we package up all those extra sewing tools and books we've collected and give them away in the white elephant type game. It's fun to see which gift gets stolen the most. My other favorite is the Show and Tell, or Bring and Brag...if you want to call it that. I skipped retreats for the last a few years but have signed up for two this year and a Guild sew-in. Looking forward to the sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would like the option to bring my spouse who would then do his own thing while I sew.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to quilting retreat before. But, I heard it was so much fun. I hope I will join someday.
ReplyDeleteI like to have choices at a retreat. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI've never been to one...ok; feel sorry for me now...lol
ReplyDeleteThey would be so much fun!! I enjoy just getting together to sew with friends; so a retreat must be wonderful
I've never been to a quilt retreat but they sound like lots of fun. Thanks for the sweet giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteHello - I'm a new follower. I love our retreats to Palouse Divide Lodge in northern Idaho. You can see our last one on my blog. I know it's far from NH but you gotta see it. It encompasses all the necessities: peace, beauty, pleasantness, beauty, warmth, great food, beauty.....um....did I say it's beautiful? Oh yes. Lovely. Come and see. Thanks for letting us visit and have a chance to win. I hope you'll stop by Prairie Cottage Corner, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to pick the best part of a quilt retreat, because I love everything about them. I think not having to make meals and the work that actually gets done, not just thought about would be tops. The friendships are up on the top of the list too!
ReplyDeleteHey, we're neighbors...I live in Southern NH too!! It's sew nice to meet new friends along the quilted path of life, and there's lots of opportunity for that on a retreat. I've made many wonderful friends on retreats. My next one is a quilter's bus trip to the AQS's quilt show in Lancaster, Pa - next week!!!!! It was nice visiting with you & I look forward to stopping by again soon & hearing more about YOUR quilt retreats & adventures, :-D Thanks sew much for this chance to win your generous giveaway.

The best thing about quilt retreats are the inspiring things everyone is working on and all the sharing of ideas and even supplies if you need.
ReplyDeleteBeing with other quilters, seeing what everyone is working on, camaraderie and some fun gifts :)
ReplyDeleteI have never gone on a quilt retreat, but it sounds wonderful. Maybe some day i will have the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI like fat quarter swaps, a common small project to take home as a souviner, and great food! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy quilt retreat is giving a quilted gift to someone of my friends who knows to appreciate the amount of work invested in it :) Thanks for this great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a retreat special to me is the opportunity to get to know people in a different way. On a recent guild getaway, what started as a superficial chat with a member turned into a deep and meaningful conversation because we were in a mode where we had the time and the opportunity to share. I think that we both came away feeling a bond and connection that we would not have found otherwise. For me it is not about how much I get done, but the quality of the time with the other women. But I do like to get a lot done, too!!!
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I get to go to my bosses condo in Florida twice a year for a mini-retreat. Three to four days of sun, sand, relaxing, sewing, laughing, eating junk food, no rules, no clocks, no worries...just sheer fun! It is amazing how much we each get done while there. I got to meet Sue Pelland at the Houston Quilt Festival and I bought her set of rulers. Have not had time to get them out and try them yet. Great give-a-way, thanks for giving us a chance.
ReplyDeleteI have never went to a retreat but would look forward to a serene destination (green outdoor space) funny when I probably wouldn't be out there and some nice food treats.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat for quilting. I would think that it would be the inspiration of sewing around all the other creative people.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a quilting Retreat either. I think fun games would be nice? I have the leaves galore ruler but no patterns. I'd love to win this book.
ReplyDeleteBarb@Witsend
Wi-fi. There are so many resources online that I don't want to be separated from them while I'm at a quilting retreat. What if someone comes with a project or fabric that you fall in love with? Go online and order the pattern or fabric. What if it's 2 a.m and everyone's asleep and you've forgotten the math for quarter-square triangles? Go online.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love sending pictures to my friends who are unable to join me so they can enjoy the time, if only vicariously :-)
I've never been on a retreat but the idea of time away with friends just sewing sounds heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a retreat but would love to!
ReplyDeleteI've never be to a quilt retreat, with two very young children it's just not in the cards right now. Someday :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!

A great retreat includes time away from quilting - a short side trip, some spa services, or retail therapy.
ReplyDeleteSpa services....YES! How about chair massages for when the pain starts to hit the shoulders and back!)
DeleteI have never been to a quilt retreat. I would love to go someday
ReplyDeleteBeing with fellow quilters and sharing ideas makes it special. Actually sewing while there is very important to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI have not been to one yet. But I think that meeting other quilters and making new friends and getting inspiraton from what is see.
ReplyDeleteI have never done a quilt retreat but I bet you it would be fun. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThe retreats I have attended have all been bring your own projects and work on them. That has been lots of fun, but what has really been fun is seeing what other groups are working on and sharing patterns with them.
ReplyDeleteMeeting new and old friends. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity on the draw. bonnielarson58@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have never been to one but they always sound like so much fun! Non stop sewing and fun! Just a bunch of girlfriends doing what they love.
ReplyDeleteThe interactions with others and I must confess I love prizes throughout the event (for example, at a certain unannounced point in the retreat you give a prize to the person who has made the most blocks, then something later to the someone who can show you a red scrap first)...silly little things really, but I think they are fun.
ReplyDeleteGood friends, good food, a place to walk and movies with popcorn.
ReplyDeleteI have only been on one retreat and the best part for me was having the meals made and served by staff so we could concentrate on sewing to our hearts delight! And they were very yummy meals. We also had a selection of supplies/fat quarters which were for sale (on a tab system) and a couple of workshops for little gifts. I really should go on another one soon.

I have never been on a retreat but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun to be with people that love to sew as much as you do.Thank you so much for your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteNana Rose
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a retreat but I do enjoy workshops where you can successfully finish the project. Thank you for your giveaway
A retreat is made great by the people! Also, lots of table space and equipment (irons, cutting boards, etc). Finally, I like to help others out - informal support and tutorials rather than formal workshops.
ReplyDeleteSarah
New follower! I've never been to a retreat, but I have been to quilt sew-ins. I love seeing what everyone else is working on and getting ideas for myself.
ReplyDeleteA retreat gives you so much inspiration and it gives you the will to continue quilting!

I've never been to a retreat. But, if there was one close to my home and the technique was something I'd like to learn, I might decide to attend. I'm just learning applique so this book would be great...thanks for the nice giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat, but I would love to!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an overnight retreat, but my "home" quilt shop here in Calgary, Canada, has a few in-store retreats each year. We go Friday, Saturday, Sunday -- we laugh, share tips (and thread), learn from each other, eat great food, and sometimes even get some work done.
ReplyDeleteGoing to a quilt retreat is always lots of fun. Some of the special things that I think are great are a little kit of something easy and quick to make, great lighting and enough room to spread out your tools, a comfy chair and also someplace to sit and relax in between sewing.
ReplyDeleteGood fellowship.Thank you for the chance to win this lovely prize and taking part in the hop.
ReplyDeleteI've actually never been to a retreat. I have her rulers and would love to win this book, thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a quilt retreat but as a mummy I am seeing the appeal of a few days to my creative self. Maybe one day :)
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a quilting retreat--but I think nice little touches, like maybe a handmade pincushion at each spot-or some other little momento would be nice.
ReplyDeleteDanke für die tolle Verlosung..ich bin noch Anfänger
ReplyDeleteGrüße aus Deutschland

I've never been on a quilt retreat, but I would think that plenty of light, food, and laughter would fit right in. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteQuilt retreats are special because of the friendships that you have or the new friends you make, plus the fun and laughter.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat but the idea of it sounds great - no kids, no hubby, no phone - just sewing
ReplyDeleteThe people!.. and of course the quilting... but mostly the people and the knowledge they share.
ReplyDeleteI've never done a retreat but I have taken classes at quilt shows. I think it would be fun to learn something new, not just a new pattern etc. A technique or whatever. My giveaway post is about rag quilts. I am surprised how many people have never made one.
ReplyDeleteI just love retreats......except for the moving involved........I tend to take my entire sewing room with me. I love learning new stuff from other quilters. It's the best part of a retreat
ReplyDeleteI just saw Sue at a Quilt Festival a few weekends ago and bought one of her rulers. Would love to have the book. I've never been on a quilt retreat, although they sound like fun!
ReplyDeleteQuilt Retreats are special for several reasons but friends are on the top of the list. Other things- no having to stop and cook, just to eat. I also like time split between learning something new and being able to sew on my own. Thanks for participating in the Quilters' Blog Hop Party.
ReplyDeleteI went to my first retreat last summer and have booked on it again this summer - fun!!
ReplyDeleteI have never attended a quilt retreat but would really love to. Thank you for the chance to win that lovely applique book.
ReplyDeleteI've never been lucky enough to go on a quilt retreat, but I suspect it would be the company tht made it special
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat.. would love to one day
ReplyDeleteI think the most important part of a successful quilt retreat are the people - if they're nice and friendly you're guaranteed a good time!
ReplyDeleteGoing to a retreat is on my bucket list. Thank you for offering such a generous prize Coullmills@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteA quilt retreat in a quiet, peaceful lodge in the country is what appeals to me.
ReplyDeletenicolesender(at)yahoo(dot)com
Hmmmm, a quilt retreat, huh? Good food and plenty of it. Good friends and plenty of them. Good fabrics and plenty of them too!
ReplyDeleteWhat would make a quilt retreat great is first: price, second: the main theme would be a type of quilting I would like to learn. I hope I win!!
ReplyDeleteLots of good food, fabric swaps, door prizes, a quilt project to learn a new technique plus time to work on your own projects. And most important: lots of fun and laughter.
ReplyDeleteI've been to one retreat and I spent the whole time walking around talking with everyone LOL
ReplyDeletektreve (at) hotmail (dot) com
My favorite retreats have had 1-2 dozen people, not so big as to feel lost in a crowd. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
ReplyDeleteWell, I have never been to a retreat, so I am clueless. But I think the sharing of ideas, new and old would be great. Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love retreats in beautiful locations. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy retreats that allow time to enjoy the area a little too. Porch sitting in a beautiful area is a bonus! Of course little swag packages are always nice!
ReplyDeletehulseybg at gmail dot com
We have a quilt retreat in a very remote area, there are no cell phones, internet connections or traffic. We have a wonderful time sewing eating great food and laughing.
ReplyDeleteI love retreats everywhere. hugs Alessandra
ReplyDeleteI"ve never been, but I would love to! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat although I would love to attend one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.

ReplyDeleteI like the giveaways they have at the retreats and the fun with other quilters
ReplyDeleteI've looked for your email and it isn't in my spam file or my other files. I do hope we can connect I really could use a book like that for one of my UFO's
